Dr. José Baselga, VHIO director, has been awarded with the Jaume I Prize on Medical Research. The awards have been given among 160 candidates, and the jury was composed by 18 Nobel Prize winners, recognized professors and scientists. The award is provided with an Euro 100,000 prize.

Dr. Baselga has been awarded for "his work in the development of new molecular agents for treating cancer". The oncologist declared after receiving the award that "this is the acknowledgement to the work model that sets up a bridge between basic science and clinical medicine, in order for the patients to benefit as soon as possible from the research results". According to Dr. Baselga, this is "one of the most important problems nowadays".

The Jaume I Prizes, granted by the Valencia Advanced Research Foundation, recognize since 1989 the work of researchers that have decisively contributed to the advancement of national science. It seems the translational model that Dr. José Baselga promotes is starting to bear fruit.

The award ceremony, which this year celebrates its 20th edition, will take place the 10th of October in Alicante, with the attendance of Their Majesties the King and Queen.
