Breast Cancer Group

VHIO was established in 2006 in response to the need to bring together the basic, clinical and translational oncological  research activities at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital campus.

As a cancer center,  VHIO is committed to cutting-edge research. The close collaboration between physicians and scientists is one of our unique strengths, and enables us to provide patients with the best care available today as we work to discover more effective strategies to prevent, control, and ultimately cure cancer.

The melding of research with patient care is at the heart of everything we do. At VHIO, ground breaking scientific research flourishes along side with clinical investigation and treatment at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, one of the largest hospitals within Spain.

Patient Care

The Oncology Department at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital has established treatment protocols for every stage of each type of cancer. Our physicians have an extraordinary depth and breadth of experience in diagnosing and treating all forms of the disease, from the most common to the very rare.

Our Clinical Program is comprised of 9 multidisciplinary cancer teams. Patients are treated by as many different specialists as are needed for their particular type of disease, including surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, psychiatrists, and nurses.

Our pathologists have developed considerable expertise in employing pioneering new techniques  to diagnose cancer accurately. Radiation oncologists are putting cutting-edge technologies and techniques in radiation therapy into clinical practice. In addition, the Hospital offers a full range of programs to help patients and families throughout all phases of treatment, including support groups, genetic counseling, help managing cancer pain and symptoms and rehabilitation.

Research

VHIO  undertakes  one of the country’s most dynamic programs of cancer research. The extraordinary patient care we provide is developed in light of our innovative programs in basic, translational, and clinical research. Research at VHIO  is dedicated to understanding the biology of cancer through programs in cellular and molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry and therapeutics.

Researchers collaborate with Vall d’Hebron University Hospital physician-scientists, a partnership that helps speed important research findings from the laboratory to the bedside, via a process known as translational research. VHIO  leads the  clinical trials programs to identify more effective cancer therapies, and our physicians are currently leading more than 100 clinical trials for adult cancers.
