Inactivation of DNA repair and high dose Vitamin C boost cancer immunotherapy

  • Speaker:  Alberto Bardelli, Director of Laboratory Molecular Oncology at the Candiolo Cancer Institute IRCCS and Associate Professor at the Department of Oncology, University of Turin, IRCCS, Italy
  • Talk title: Inactivation of DNA repair and high dose Vitamin C boost cancer immunotherapy
  • Date & time: Friday 3rd July, 12:00h
  • Host: Joan Seoane, Director of Translational Research at VHIO

Bardelli’s group discovered that KRAS, NRAS and BRAF mutated colorectal cancer patients do not respond to anti EGFR antibodies. His work also led the development of diagnostic tests, based on the pioneering use of liquid biopsies. He showed that the analysis of circulating tumor DNA (liquid biopsies) allows monitoring tumor’s evolution and resistance to targeted therapies. The Bardelli’s lab was the first to pinpoint the emergence of KRAS/NRAS mutations in the blood of patients during EGFR blockade. These discoveries represent the first example of personalized therapies for colorectal cancer patients, and were reported by the Bardelli’s group in Nature, Nature Medicine, Cell, Cancer Cell, JAMA, and Lancet Oncology.

Overall, Bardelli has authored more than 200 scientific articles of which over 100 as an independent investigator.
