A position for a bioinformatics researcher is available for Q1-2021 at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology’s Prostate Cancer Translational Research Group (PI: Joaquin Mateo). Our group focuses on studying and testing hypothesis-based targeted therapy in prostate cancer and we are especially committed to applying the potential clinical value of our findings to clinical trials. Currently ongoing projects in the lab are focused in: 1) derivation and clinical validation of genomics signatures based whole-exome, whole-genome and RNA sequencing of primary and metastatic prostate cancer biopsies to identify prostate cancers with clinically-relevant DNA repair deficiencies; 2) multi-compartmental characterisation of liquid biopsies in prostate cancer, including comparative analysis of cell-free tumor DNA, circulating tumor cells and tumor-derived exosomal DNA longitudinally in response and at progression of anticancer therapies; 3) discovery of clinico-genomic correlates based on exploiting open knowledgebases as well as privately owned databases from collaborators.
We are seeking an organized, motivated and team-oriented bioinformatician with previous experience in cancer genomics and with the desire to work in a multidisciplinary team focused in translational research.
The following requirements are mandatory:
- Degree in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology or similar. Applicants with degrees in biotechnology, biology or other life sciences will be considered providing they can demonstrate expertise in bioinformatics/computational genomics.
- Experience in cancer genomics.
- This position is intended for postdoctoral researches with a PhD in biomedical/computer sciences who can progressively become independent in developing academic research projects in line with the group priorities. Applicants who do not hold a PhD degree may be considered in exceptional situations.
- Experience in processing and analysing next-generation sequencing data including whole-exome, whole-genome and RNA sequencing.
- Experience in visualization tools for genomics data.
- Fluent in R and/or Python, other programming languages will also be favoured.
- The candidate is expected to be able to communicate well in English, even if it is not his/her first language.
In principle, this is a 3 years project, although the contract will be renewed based on positive annual appraisals.
Salary to be discussed according to previous experience.
The salary will be fully covered from existing grants from the US CDMRP-Department of Defense and AECC, although in the long-term the candidate is expected to pursue grant applications to develop their own academic projects with the support of the group.
