Barcelona, September 30, 2021. The Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) opens its first institutional call for applications for doctoral fellowships. These grants offer national and international young researchers the opportunity to complete their dissertation at VHIO, one of the leading cancer research centers in Europe. In line with the strategic goals of this institution, the purpose of these grants is to provide future generations of healthcare professionals and investigators with high-level training in personalized therapies against cancer.
This call for applications for doctoral fellowships, relating to VHIO’S recent accreditation as a center proposed to be Accredited as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence, offers five institutional grants to carry out a dissertation research project in any of the research groups belonging to this call. A sixth grant is also offered, associated with the project led by Dr. José Seoane on Targeting synthetic lethality in chromatin regulatory genes for the treatment of gastrointestinal cancer.
Projects will have a duration of four years and are included within the framework of the Pre-doctoral training contracts (FPI) 2021 call supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.

We think that completing training at our institution represents an exciting opportunity for any young researcher,” says Clara Caminal, head of the VHIO Academy, which is a newly established department at VHIO and is responsible for the development of educational & training programs for VHIO researchers, as well as the management of these grants.
Applicants must hold a Master’s Degree or equivalent in a scientific field within the scope of VHIO’s research activities, demonstrate an excellent academic performance and a strong commitment to scientific research, and must speak fluent English.
Candidates will be evaluated by an external committee on the basis of their academic record, achievements, motivation, and references, among other criteria. VHIO Academy staff will guide candidates throughout the application process, which will be coordinated with the application to the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
